Mathematics

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability.

At Murringo Public School, we are dedicated to providing a robust Mathematics education that meets the diverse needs of our students. Our teaching approach is centred around the concept of 'teaching mathematics at the point of need', which allows us to tailor instruction to each student's academic requirements. We utilise flexible grouping strategies, ensuring that students are placed in learning environments that best support their growth and development.

Our educators implement Explicit Instruction as a foundational teaching method, delivering clear and structured lessons that guide students through mathematical concepts. This approach is complemented by effective feedback and targeted questioning, which encourages deeper understanding and critical thinking. We believe that ongoing dialogue about mathematics is essential for fostering a growth mindset and helping students to articulate their thought processes.
